Watches are crafted from Douglas-fir trees harvested from forests of western Montana. The wood dials are hand selected for their beauty and unique annual tree ring history. With 35 years of growth rings on each timepiece, hours, minutes, and seconds are juxtaposed against years. Underneath each wood dial sits a Seiko VH31 Mecha-Quartz movement. The watch is enclosed by a high quality stainless steel case and a sapphire crystal. The origin year of the chronology, 1991, is marked near the center of the tree. This year represents when the tree was small seedling. A slice of a tree is a snapshot of its life history. As such, every tree is unique and will vary in appearance. Dial and engraving options. Every watch dial is a real cross-section of a Douglas-fir that we cut, dry, sand and finish by hand in Missoula, Montana. Choose the case color (silver or gold-tone stainless steel), then the dial: the standard tree ring dial, the dial with the origin year 1991 burned beneath the pith, the dial with initials (one set or two, e.g. J + D), or year and initials together.
